Ok i know people want Mr. Cotto's gonna win's opinion. I'll copy what i wrote elsewhere.
So now, i picked Cotto cause of size and power. The one thing i mentioned as an intangible was his corning and that played a HUGE factor. NO ONE was telling him anything except "we can turn this around" time and time again, no instruction on adjusting. Cotto should've stuck to what he did in round one by making Manny the aggressor and countering because he did it to perfection. As soon as Manny pulled him in and made Cotto the aggressor and he started countering it was working perfectly. Cotto was getting no help from his corner on what to do and his jab was the main thing. They told him in round 10 i think it was to use his jab. ROUND 10, the damn fight was already over! Cotto got hit with the wide right hand because he was concentrating on Manny's left too much and not covering that side. Then on the flipside he got hit with the straight left over and over because Manny would side step to his left and launch it and Cotto never seen it or adjusted to any of that. Cotto's fault for thinking he could run his own training camp. With all that said, i've always said Manny fought great guys at great times when they weren't great so i didn't hold him to high for those. His defense is better when he's standing still, he's still wide open when he throws cause he drops both hands and he's still wild at times. Uses the same combo he's been using and i believe Floyd still picks him apart and takes a unanimous decision. BUT Manny has now beat a prime Cotto even though he shouldn't be champ for making the champ cut 2lbs under what he's allowed as the WELTERWEIGHT (147) champ. But Cotto looked healthy and Manny blew him out of the water so he has got a ton of respect for me, he did a great job last night and won my respect as a great fighter.

Santos looked old and out of shape. Shame really to see a champion grow old in front of you! Always liked Santos as something of an old school champion.
I guess boxing once a year at the age of 34 and seemingly not bothering to train isn't the smartest idea?! Chavez Jr. is going to get found out. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt though, it can't be easy constantly moving through the weighclasses whilst you're still growing. Damn he's getting huge, never thought he'd be fighting at LMW! (or was it MW?) He needs to stop growing already. I'm not sure why Cotto didn't use the jab more in defense! His jab could have been the great equalizer in this fight, with him meeting Manny's face with the left jab anytime he stepped forward. I agree Cruz, Cotto never seemed to be able to avoid the straight left. Each time Manny would step across, avoid Cotto (who seemed to overcommit and remain static after throwing) and counter with that straight rear left hand. The red mist seemed to decend a few times though and thats when he got caught the worst, it looked in the 1st that he'd be able to box to a tight gameplan but he couldn't and he seemed to slowly unravel! Fair play to Manny though, Cotto's unravelling was more to do with just how many times and from such different angles Manny was able to hit him with power shots. Overall it played out similar to how I (and many others) thought it would with Cotto competitive early and then Manny taking over. It's a shame really, because I think it was the 2nd knockdown that really ended Cotto's hopes; if he'd landed that on Manny this fight could have been a true EPIC! He was landing on Manny plenty but he couldn't hurt him, then took that sickener. Cotto has a seriously big HEART, I'd imagine he'd still be there swinging away if he had the choice! Pacman - Mayweather is the fight of the decade! It has to happen. |

props for cotto. this is what a fight should be. hyped by both fighters' skill & not of make believe animosity just to sell the fight. sucks that he had to face one of the best boxers of this generation. cotto will be back. i was already a fan but now knowing he won't have to deal with my boy pacman, he has my full support.
