The Japanese know how to do it:
Probably nothing has done so much harm to the liberal cause as the wooden insistence of some liberals on certain rules of thumb, above all the principle of laissez faire.

These swords should be banned or at least put a safety on'em.

Banned now. I believe you can only have a) hereditary swords (which many families actually have) or b) dulled edge swords or c) a license for the real deal (eg. for people who practice "traditional" arts).
In Japan, genuine edged hand-made Japanese swords, whether antique or modern, are classified as art objects (and not weapons) and must have accompanying certification in order to be legally owned.
Ironically, when that assassination occurred, all swords were illegal iirc, but there were (are) hundreds around kept by right wingers. The love certain Japanese have for their swords dwarfs how Americans feel about guns.

BTW, another angle of the attack:
Probably nothing has done so much harm to the liberal cause as the wooden insistence of some liberals on certain rules of thumb, above all the principle of laissez faire.

Hey, don't rag on whale meat. Got them through the post-WW II depression. Cheap, plentiful protein. You'd be hard-pressed to find a Japanese person over 45 who hasn't had whale meat.
