Getting into the meat of the sandwich here. Some better and more competitive games. You can really tell, though, what a month off does to a bunch of 19- and 20- year old kids. You can practice all you like, but game-speed, intensity, urgency, timing, focus will suffer and lag afte that kind of a lay-off. I don't care who you are. And some of these guys have two more weeks of down time. Again, that's what makes these so hard to predict. Not only do we have injuries, suspensions, other unpredictable factors, but the unknowable X factor of how 6 weeks on the couch will affect the timing, sharpness, and mentality of an entire team.

TCU screwed a lot of people. Tough loss.
Wowzers. USC, sans QB, looks absoltely AWFUL. They were lucky to score . . . at all.
Tulsa appears to be crusising now, too. Need LSU to really show up tonight just so I can break even today. Yeesh.
Aaaaaand I'm 1-for-4 today. Yikes.
It was a moral victory to see yet another SEC legend exposed. They hype is over. It has to be. Pre-season #3 ends up with 3 losses. Two of their wins were by less than 3. Two more were by 7 or less, including @ Arkansas, a 4-8 trainwreck.
So the storied SEC defense gives up 32 first downs, 450 yards, and 25 pts, almost half of which came in the 4th quarter, on their way to a 3-loss season. It was a close game, but statistacally, LSU was dominated, managing only 9 first downs and just over 200 yards of offense.
Ok State vs. Purdue is clearly a mismatch. That's what happens, though. You lose some VERY close, disappointing games that could have gone either way and you end up in some mid-tier bowl game matched-up with some team with a "similar record" because that's about as deep as the bowl committee gets with this shjt. Now you're facing ethical delimmas over pity and humiliation when it's 45-0 in the 3rd.
Ends up 58-14 with 3rd string players in the game. Most points ever scored in a Cotton Bowl bowl game. OSU let the clock run out with almost a minute to go and the ball on the Purdue 30 . . . otherwise this thing is 65+. O State looked like a top 15 team out there, easily. A poor man's Oregon.
After setting the NCAA record for forced turnovers last season, they came out today and forced 5 on their way to a 500+ yard offensive clinic. Played three different QBs. They score over 48 pts in a game for the 6th time this season and settle on an average pts per game around 46 - good for 3rd or 4th most productive offense in FBS. They'll finish 9-5 with at least two more wins that could/should have happened along the way. Not bad considering they just LOST the Brown's starting QB and the 2-time Blitnikoff winner to the NFL, not to mention the musical chairs bit at QB with injuries, concussions, and knee surgeries along the way.
So, let's look at the losses.
Dropped a road L to Arizona in the season opener via 60-40 shootout. Fun-but-ugly. Chaos on the road. True freshman QB was hanging out at the Dairy Queen in Iowa 3 months ago. Kind of a wake-up call.
#12 Texas converts a 4th and 12 to score as time runs out for a come-from-behind win by 5 pts in a game OSU controlled for most of regulaton at home.
Down by 7 in the final minutes, looking for an on-side kick and a miracle, #1 K State goes pick-6 to win by 14 in Kansas. Tough loss, but K State was really grooving at that point and looked to be in the driver's seat for both a National Title and a Heisman-winning QB. That's a tough-ass road game, fellas.
#13 OU comes back from a 21-pt defecit, having never led in regulation, to force OT, and then answers OSU's field goal with a broken-tackle TD to win in OT by 3 at OU. Easily the most disappointing loss of the season. Looked fantastic early and kind of fell asleep here.
Unranked Baylor plays lights-out and wins by 7 on their home field. Baylor caught fire late in the season and also thumped then #1 K State by 28 and went on to smash #17 UCLA by 23 in their bowl win. Baylor peaked at the right time and finished the season with some NICE friggin' wins.
So, hard-fought losses against some quality squads; specacular wins - 9 in total - including another successful bowl W. Hey, I'm pretty happy. And they graduate a handful of lineman. ALL the skill players return and the quarterback controversy continues -- all the QBs looked sharp today. Could be a VERY interesting 2013 for this crew.

Man hopefully Louisville finishes this off...I'm sick of hearing about the big bad sec all the time
