I don't see how Maia is over rated, finishes Chael Sonnen in two minutes, survives A. Silva for 5 rounds, moves down and finishes 2 legit ww contenders in the 1st round, if he loses this fight it's because Jon Fitch works his ass off to take advantage of the UFCs scoring criteria.. not because Maia isn't that good, he can submit a lot of guys at 170

fitch doesnt have good submission defense, he has good submission escapes.

Very well put. Fitch definitely won some points with me last time and he could continue to do so IF he continues to follow the Chris Lytle path.

Maia is another thing on the ground. Fitch can hold BJJ black belts down and control them for GnP points, but Maia will sweep and threaten on the ground non stop. I don't think Fitch's brute strength and determination will be enough to stop Maia if he locks something up.

Fitch's got this. Maia's not nearly as good as many people here think.

On the ground, he is insanely talented. Fitch would be very stupid to spend too much time on the ground with him. It is impressive to hold your own with black belts like Eric Silva and Paulo Thiago, but Maia is a 3rd or 4th degree black belt and world champion in BJJ and light years ahead of the guys Fitch has faced.

the thing with maia's guard is that he plays a very open type for mma. most guys would lock in their closed guard & break your posture so they could grab for the neck & tricep & weather the storm. maia's not afraid with scrambles so he's not timid if a guy can shutdown his butterfly. & that's a big if. most guys would stand up from it instead of passing it.

How does it not? Fitch said he only wanted to fight current or former UFC champions. Lots of guys win grappling, wrestling, Kickboxing, etc. tournaments and aren't UFC champions, past or present. And Im not saying Maia isn't a top fighter, but he obviously doesn't fit the criteria that Fitch is on record saying he is only looking to fight.

Because, all you said was champion. You didn't stipulate that it had to be a "UFC Champion." Your sarcastic remark would of been funnier when Fitch vs. Hendricks was announced, less funny when Fitch vs. Silva was, and now... you get the point.
