Thread: Fights that did not live up to the hype

    Penn/Edgar, both

Cain/JDS and Couture/Toney don't belong here though. What the **** did you think was going to happen in those fights? People are confusing "hype" with what THEY wanted to happen.

Not really. If Cain had won that quickly, in the FOX debut, it would have left me wanting more too. Point is, it was suppossed to be fireworks on the biggest MMA stage ever. How does that not qualify?

Cotoure and Toney is a letdown in the sense that the UFC did what they accuse their Asian competitors of doing. They propagated and sold a sideshow. I don't have a problem with that, but let's now lie about it and market it as Toney is going to convert to mma, he's subbing Mo Lawal- blah blah blah

There may have been " hype " because it was the inaugural Fox show. That doesn't give the fight any hype at all. It was a lop sided mismatch. Fast, heavy hands vs. glass jaw, easy call. In the second fight Cain goes down again in vicious fashion. I hope they don't create a lot of " hype " for it.

I see what you're saying here, just one problem, Cain was KTFO. Just like I expected and most MMA fans expected.

    are you being serious???

everyone knew that cain had weak striking defense, and was coming off a long layoff.

combine those factors with junior being the best boxer and heaviest hitter cain had faced, along with junior's stellar takedown defense,

and the outcome was fairly predictable.

the fight was hyped as two heavy hitting HW's that could end the fight at anytime.

yes, i was pleased with the fight, and it went how i thought it would. . . .

they came out trading and then bam, spectacular knock out, very exciting stuff.

dont expect back and forth wars when the HW's are fighting.

also take a look back at how quickly junior has finished most of his opponents, come on man. . .

Maybe, but all your doing is the inverse of what you accused me of doing. The guy you thought would win, and pulled for, won in devastating fashion, so now it can't be a "fight that didn't live up to the hype"....So, if you'd been wrong and Cain took him down and tko'ed him, it would have been a fight that "didn't live up to the hype?" What does the potential outcome have to do with hype. The line was favoring Cain and near even at fight time. There was a ****load of hype.

****load of hype for Toney too. We're given all kinds of press about his TDD and evolution. The guy gets taken down with a low single off the word go, looks like a fish out of water, and taps to an arm triangle. I saw it coming, but there was a ****load of hype. A lot of people on this board thought he was gonna connect and put Randy out.

My pt...the general public expected more competitive fights.

    It was for me.

I like when a wrestler gets knocked the **** out.

I even like that his fans are doing logical gymnastics to try to justify a rematch going any differently.

You build yourselves back up only to crash and burn once again. It will be glorious.
