I'm not sure Grant Hill belongs on that list. Other than his early years in Detroit (when he was healthy), I've never really seen anyone say he was a great player. I know he came off the bench for a reason in Orlando. Dude can't jump at all anymore.
Yup - Nique would be top 5 all time for the amount of talent and underachieving from a winning perspective. One of the best pure athletes I have ever seen play but man if the ball wasn't in his hands he literally had little to no affect on the rest of the game.
Other overrated players (just my opinion):
Gary Payton - were was "The Glove" when they crested into the playoffs every year? And since we are on Seattle...
Shawn Kemp - I guess with all those kids on his mind he didn't have time to focus on anything but highlight reel dunks.
Tim Hardaway - Flashy guard, part of the Run TMC (mullin/richmond being the other two) but no where to be found when it counted most.
Scottie Pippen - If it weren't for Mike...Scottie would not be in the top 50 all time
Grant Hill - I'm still not sure if this guy has played one full season with those brittle ankles of his
Yao Ming - I'm a Rockets fan buddy and I saw enough of your b.s. Way overrated (see getting voted into all star games without playing one game)
Just a few to get people riled up...

Penny was my favorite player as a kid...Was really a shame what happened to him...He was an amazing player to watch
The term "great" is thrown around pretty loosely..especially in the NBA. I view a players underrated/overrated category as in how GM/Owners keep tossing contracts (big ones) at guys who for whatever the reason don't deliver for the money. Grant Hill is a guy who year after year would end up injured yet somehow managed to do enough to keep getting paid. The classic example of course is Rashard Lewis who somehow lands MONSTER contracts without really doing anything to earn it. The other part of the equation (see my list above) where players were deemed great and were regular season monsters only to fade during the playoffs. Sure they had a year here or there were they did decent...but for the accolades they received the payoff was missing big time.

i disagree about Pippen as an all time most overrated? Pretty much everyone who ever played with or against him says he is one of the all time best. When Karl Malone was recently asked who he would have wanted to play with, the first guy he mentioned was Pippen. The Bulls were title contenders the year that jordan played baseball (although Pippen did dissapear in the playoff game that got them knocked out, i think it was against the knicks)
he wasn't a great offensive player, but might have been the best defensive small forward of all time, was solid offensively and could do pretty much everything well. he wasn't a single dominant player like Lebron and isn't in the same class as LEbron and Bird, but I don't think anyone really thinks of him that way.
I'm all for taking players and former players opinions on the matter. But I have to throw out Malone's comments as they just came off as a bitter, bitter man. However, you are correct that many other players have said that Pippen was great. Yep, defensively he is probably the best SF ever. The offense he did have was certainly aided by Jordan, but he wasn't a bad rebounder or passer, either.
And he had a little clutch in him. Save for game 7 vs. the Knicks, and the sitting out for Portland fiasco, he USUALLY stepped up in crunch time.

Your own argument makes my point. Defensively lets say he's the best ever (I don't think so..think you forgot a guy named Rodman who technically is a SF), and the rest of his game is just "solid"...that means overall to get into the top 50 you have a great defensive player who's just solid at other stuff? Pfffttt....overrated. Like I said...if he didn't have Mike no one would even be talking about the guy. Add in the quitting on his team and the doing nothing after Mike retired...well it kind of makes my case for me.
And referencing Karl Malone is just bad for your argument. The guy obviously has an axe to grind and the bitterness of not getting that title even though he went away from the Jazz to try and make it happen has obviously shaded his views. Anyone who says "I would rather have Scottie than Mike" is a grade A friggin moron.
