I think the Miz is pretty under rated on the mic.

Brian, Austin was starting to find his groove on the stick as a member of the HollyWood Blondes with Pillman. Speaking of Pillman, his loose cannon character was great and ahead of its time.
He wasn't bad, but Blonde's era Austin didn't get the mic time needed to really be a great talker, especially since Pillman did so much of the 'punchlines'.

I think today's stars have it harder for the most part. Back until the mid-90s, you cut short promos. Also, half of your promos were done "in the back" so you could re-tape them if they sucked. I remember in the middle of a match, the little box would come up in the corner, and you'd see a guy talk **** for about 30 seconds. Nowadays guys are expected to talk through whole 15 minute segments, in front of the live audience. And no one really gets a manager to do the talking anymore. I remember Heenan having a stable of 5 or 6 guys at one point. So none of them had to have any mic skills, the Brain did all their talking.

One of my favorite promos of all time is when Pillman was in ECW and started calling the audience a bunch of smart marks. Pillman was the guy to do it because he was crazy enough that it could be believed as a shoot, even though it was a work.

Raven was amazing because he understood psychology and did a great job of getting his points across.

The best promo I can remember was Ric Flair building up his 1999 bout with Hogan. He did long promo that praised Hogan, but also drew the line between them. Things like: While you were taking Cyndi Lauper to the Grammys, I was working 60 minutes with Terry Funk. Back in the mid 80s, Hogan was considered the bigger star, but most die-hard fans saw Flair as the real champ, the guy that could go into any town and make the local star look like a star. Flair pretty much went through the mid to late 80s and differences between their careers. Because it was heavily based in fact, it was so amazing. He pointed out that he could have a five star match with a ladder and told Hogan that they were going to shed blood, sweat and tears and deliver a match for the ages and that Hogan had better hold on tight.
