Default tennessee law makers fighting the important battles

    http://www.livescience.com/19659-teaching-evolution-tennessee-bill.html

    "
The bill will require state and local education authorities to "assist teachers to find effective ways to present the science curriculum as it addresses scientific controversies," according to a copy of the bill.

Controversial issues listed in that bill include biological evolution, the chemical origins of life, global warming and human cloning."
    -----------------------------------------
so it requires teachers to teach controversies that more or less haven't existed since a few years after the origin of species was published 150 years ago. wonderful.

i'm starting to wonder if garth's crazy commie conspiracies aren't actually true. clearly this is a covert attempt to bring down america by ensuring that its younger generations don't understand science.

Didn't you move to Tennessee? I just know that you are behind this....
Probably nothing has done so much harm to the liberal cause as the wooden insistence of some liberals on certain rules of thumb, above all the principle of laissez faire.

What's kind of sad too is that U.S. student score averages are being buffed by foreign students, which tend to excel in History, Math and the Sciences.

'Wake-up call': U.S. students trail global leaders
Out of 34 countries assessed, U.S. ranked 14th in reading, 17th in science, 25th in math

But at least they have Brawndo.

Too many teachers are too scared to fail students. FAIL THEM. Weed out the people who won't put forth the effort needed. On top of that, take all this money we waste on governmental pork and put it towards education so those that actually care and want an education but can't afford it can get one.

And IMO, we need to stop forcing a general education and allow people to specialize early. I really don't care if the guy who makes the rocket that brings us to the moon is a horrible public speaker, or doesn't know who Plato is, as long as he knows ****ing everything about what is needed to put a rocket on the moon.

I don't know how it works in the US, but where I'm from in Canada it's not that easy to fail students. I have a few friends who are teachers, and they have said that in order to fail a student, they now need to have the agreement of the parents of the student and the school principal in order to make a kid repeat a grade. The parents are the biggest road block since far too many have the "not my kid" attitude and don't see the reality of the situation.
