Thread: 2012 playoff pick 'em

  1. #1

    Default 2012 playoff pick 'em

    1st round:

    1 rangers vs. 8 senators
    2 bruins vs. 7 capitals
    3 panthers vs. 6 devils
    4 penguins vs. 5 flyers
    -------------------------
    1 canucks vs. 8 kings
    2 blues vs. 7 sharks
    3 coyotes vs. 6 hawks
4 predators vs. 5 red wings

pick the team and the number of games. i'm thinking a point for the team and another 2 points for the correct number of games. i figured we'd just pick each round rather than just try to cram them all in at once, but i'm open to suggestions. maybe throw in your picks for final 2 and stanley cup champ for an extra couple of points each. yes i've clearly thought this thing through.

The way we've always done it is to pick Round 1, then after re-seeding complete the bracket. Personally, I think it's way too easy if you only have to pick a 1 out of 4 rather than a 1 out of 8.

    The scoring was like this:

R1 - 1 point for series winner, bonus 1 for games
    R2 - 2 points for winner, 1 for games
    R3 - 3 points for winner, 1 for games
Final - 4 points for winner, 1 for games

i don't like the idea of eliminating people from the next round if they didn't pick right. it's simply not fun.

looking back, airjasper's pool last year was pretty good. 10 pts. for correct pick, -2 pts for every game you're off. do this for every round, except that the 3rd round and finals were combined with bonus points for correctly picking the top 2 teams and winners.

How about keeping everyone in it through all four rounds, but you get more points for picking a team in the latter rounds if you picked that same team in the previous one?

Can we please consult Marvin Destin for an appropriate scoring system? The ones being suggested are far too simplistic.

    Pick the entire playoffs...

3 points for 1st round winner, 5 points for correct # of games
6 points for 2nd round winner, 10 points for correct # of games
9 points for Conference final winner, 15 points for correct # of games
12 points for picking finals teams
15 points for picking Stanley Cup Winner, 20 points for correct # of games

To get the game win bonus, you must pick the correct winner.

You can always change the pick amount, but picking the correct # of games (and the correct winner) should be worth more than picking just the correct winner.

The amount of points can always change.. like 2 pts for quarters, 4 for semis, 6 for conference, 8 for finals, etc...

I'm with the OP on format, mainly because I'll likely lose most of my teams after the first round, and would like to the chance to redeem myself. Also, the system is easier.

Oh in that case, can you pick the Caps please?

    rd 1 = 2 pts + 4 for correct games
    rd 2 = 4 pts + 6
    rd 3 = 6 pts + 8
    rd 4 = 8 pts + 10

pick each round. if the team you picked in rd 1 wins, you move onto the pts for round 2. if you were wrong you can pick again, but you're back to rd 1 pts.

    for example:
i pick pens over flyers in 4 games. that happens, i get 6 pts. next round i pick pens over bruins in 4 game. that happens, i get 10 pts. total = 16
cup picks flyers over pens in 4 games. he loses. next round he picks pens over bruins in 4 games. he gets only 6 pts because he's back down to round 1.

does that make sense? basically taking strafer's idea, but making it so that you can still pick if you were wrong the previous round.

Of course I'll pick the Caps. Thats my problem. I will generally pick the team I want to win, not the team that I think will win. Heart over head...
