Teams are playing to win those types of games this year. It's not that teams can't score goals all of the sudden, I think there has just been a big emphasis on D this year. Add in the fact that Obstruction is rarely, if ever, called and it's a sure fire recipe for low scoring games.

It's '95 all over again. In 48 games, teams feel, much like the Catholics, that every sperm is sacred. The best way of assuring that is through D. It ain't a coincidence that NJ won the '95 cup and the following 10 years were full of hand-wringing and self-flagellation over the trap, clutching and grabbing and defensive hockey.
Probably nothing has done so much harm to the liberal cause as the wooden insistence of some liberals on certain rules of thumb, above all the principle of laissez faire.
