Obviously I want to spend the least amount of money possible and get a simple device that I can use on the elliptical and spinning workouts. As long as it works I'll be satisfied. There are so many suggestions on Amazon but I barely know what I need so it is hard to decide.

Polar. Polar. Polar. FT7 is the frst of the good models. Costs about $100. Buy it from Sports Authority and for $10, you can get a 1yr warranty. On the 364th day, smasht he **** out of it, bring it back, get a check and buy a new one. My buddy has done it twice.

I (http://www.amazon.com/Pyle-Sports-PHRM38-Monitor-Walking/dp/B004RQWYDO/ref=lp_3407971_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1327963310&sr=1-10) got this one about a month ago. I need to track my heart rate for Spring semester for a school project, and so far it is working great.
And its only $30.

The Polar comes with the strap that goes around your chest. It will track daily and weekly totals for your calories burned. It will also show you how long you stayed in a cardio zone or how long you stayed in a fat burning zone. You can even set an alarm to let you know when you are over or under your target hearrate. IMO, it's better than any gym, supplement or partner simply because it keeps you honest and informed.
