Anyone have any experience or advice on training with a coach that speaks no English? I am training MMA in China and my coach speaks no English and I speak limited Chinese. Any suggestions?
If he can't communicate via speech he will show you everything, that's what I am thinking.
Oh, and you moved to China and didn't learn the basic language prior?

Yeah that's obviously what we have been doing. It has been working decently so far, but just wondering if anyone had any other tips.

I take it, the place you live you only talk with people who speak your native language?
Immersion is the best way to pick up a language. Do all you can to interact with locals and force yourself to pick it up.

What would I do that for? That **** is hard. Obviously joking, but it is hard and my Chinese is crap. Been here a year and I still don't have much of a grasp of the language. Yes, I am an idiot
You need to spend some time with the ladies and teach trade english for chinese or ***** for good old american dick.

My muay Thai trainers speak only Thai and Cantonese. I speak neither. In some ways, it's actually a bonus - they are forced to show not tell, and I, for one, prefer that to just hearing it.
Have a sense of humour and some patience about it and it will be fine.
Where in China are you?

Yeah I also like learning visually, but sometimes it would be nice to hear a simple explanation. I agree with you on the sense of humor and patience thing for sure.
I am freezing my ass off way up North. Hating every minute of this Siberian winter in a village ,of 2 million people, called Daqing.

I like the way you think Rob, unfortunately my girlfriend would hate this idea! I'll think about though.... Thanks for the tip!

Hey Zeus, you are up there! How did you find an MMA gym all the way up there in the chicken's head?
On the bright side, you'll get some experience with Mongolian folk wrestling. Seriously. It's a good base for grappling.
