View Full Version : Need a new TV series to watch,

What do you reccomend and why?

I've caught up on all the TV series I've got into lately and I'm looking for something new to watch. Now bare in mind my limited intelect and attention span of an 8 year old with ADD. So it's gotta be well paced, interesting subject matter, and preferrably finished or nearly finished with the entire season available to DL. Something serious or at least semi serious, I enjoy a few comedies but have to be in the right mood to watch them

Stuff I've really got into over the years
Fictional
Twin Peaks
X Files
Babylon 5
Dexter
Heroes
Lost
Sons Of Anarchy
Prison Break
Battlestar Gallactica (what? dont laugh you ****s!)
V

Non fiction(-ish)
American Hotrod
American Chopper
Overhaulin
X-Machines
Future weapons

Dont bother reccomending CSI though, I've seen a few and cant get into that at all. Or anything set in a hospital.

Breaking Bad is something I've seen trailers for I think, is it's the one with Malcom's dad? Looks ok.

Mad Men, I have no idea what this is?

Already watched both seasons of Clone Wars, Sr vs Jr sounds promissing though. I'm behind on AC at the mo, are they still running as 2 seperate businesses? Will it be more like a Chopper build off show now with them competing?

Yes it's "Malcolm's dad" but he's a chemistry teacher who finds out he has cancer so he starts to cook Meth.

Mad Men is about a 1960's ad agency in NY.

Both shows win many awards every year.

Breaking Bad should be at the top of your list, Spmack. Stop being a Debo, and watch that **** already. I guarantee you that you'll get sucked in quickly, and want to see seasons 2 & 3 immediately after season 1 has concluded. One of the best shows on T.V. right now. I've heard good things about Warehouse 13 and Mad Men.

Tried Rhome, not my cup of tea I'm afraid, too much homo eroticism for my tastes. I also hated the cast, especially the guy from Punisher 2.

Modern Family is already on my hitlist, I've sen bits of it on TV and it looks very good. But becasue of when it's on here I never get to watch a whole episode.

Yep, it's based on the book of the same name. It's about 12th Century England and centers around building of a church. It's quite good and as always Swearengen plays the dealmaker (also a bishop).

Drama: Breaking Bad is definitely a good watch. I wouldn't recomend Mad Men, I thought it sucked.

Comedy: Modern Family, Community and 30 Rock are all comedies I've just recently enjoyed. I would also highly recomend 'Party Down'. It's along the same vein as The Office and Extras. Alot of great cameos.

The Wire & Rescue Me are 2 of the best shows ever. Can't go wrong with either of those.

Lifer
08-11-2010, 08:03 AM
I like Rescue Me for sure, but it’s a little too ridiculous and fake for my tastes. Also, the story lines are rehashed each and every season. We always know there’s going to be some dead people talking to him, some drinking, some quitting drinking, some drama with his wife, some drama with his brother’s wife and more talk about 9/11.

Mack, have you ever watched through ‘Deadwood’? That’s the best show ever, imo. Only three seasons though and it doesn’t have a proper ending. Still well worth watching.

We share a passion for a fair few things my friend, but to me Deadwood was one the biggest piles of **** I've seen in recent memory. I absolutely hated it. I thought it was a very sub par series that attempted to compensate it's numerous shortcomings with over use of "foul language". I cant think of a single thing I liked about that show, and the fact that it had "Lovejoy" as the lead character only made it worse, and as a result unbelievable, and completely unwatchable. There are certain actors that no matter who they're portraying, you'll always see them as "that other guy" from the thing they were in previously. McShane is one of those for me.

**Lovejoy was a terrible show about an antiques dealer who was suppose to be a lovable rogue. It was super lame, as was McShane in it**

Looking forward to the Star Wars live action series, when it arrives. I believe G.L. is perfecting the blu rays of the Star Wars saga in time for an xmas release. (if rumours are true there's a ****in **** load of extras for every film being ungraded to suitable standards for a hi def format, which is why it's taken so long) Then I've read that his next project will be the live action Star Wars series concentrating character back stories.

YAY!!! :D

I like Lie to Me but in some ways it's a procedural mystery show; think CSI focusing on psychology rather than DNA and ****. Better charecters too, IMO.

Really it all depends on if you like the charecters. Check out an episode or two. If you don't like them, you won't like the series.

As for my suggestions:

Warehouse 13. It's quirky, and took a little getting used to. Eureka is much the same, although I prefer W13.

I'm a big fan of Pysch as well. (The show "The Mentalist" completely ripped off.) Only problem is that the theme song is an earworm that get's stuck in my brain.

Supernatural is meant to get good in the 2nd series isn't it? I heard series 1 was pretty "meh", but it really picked up in S2. Is it possible to start from S2 without having a clue what had happene in S1?

You don't "have" to watch the first season of Supernatural, and it's a bit different than the later seasons, but it's still worth watching. There are a few things that will make more sense in the later seasons if you've seen the first one.
The show surprised me. I didn't expect to like it as much as I do. The acting isn't always the best, but the writing is great, and the stories are compelling.

I've recently finished watching both Battlestar Galactica and Babylon 5.

BSG was alright, it had some great episodes and some bad ones. Toward the end I lost a lot of interest and the finale really sucked balls.

B5 is very good. The first season and a half isn't all that great, but once you hit midway through season 2, you won't find a better sci fi series. The story line is superb and some of the characters are very memorable.

For the non sci fi stuff I'd suggest Dexter. I've yet to see a show that's as well produced. Everything from the script to the scenery is perfect.

Farscape is the ****. One of my personal little secrets how much I loved that show.

The aliens aren't cookie cutters based on their species like every Sci-Fi show in history. They have the weird blend of Aussie Humour. Great villains, politics, etc... Greatest Sci-Fi show ever.

If you really like comedies, check out Ricky Gervais's "Extras" (2 seasons and a special) and the IT Crowd (in its 4 series now).

Homicide: Life on the Streets is great, and all the seasons on DVD. As well as Firefly (1 season, sci-fi), Deadwood (3 seasons, western), Big Love,

Eureka is a quirky show on SciFi that really finds ways to changes things up every season. This season is just wow.

Nash Bridges, Mary Tyler Moore, and Get Smart are my favorites are the older series.

Exactly what I would have posted - Mad Men is brilliantly done, but man Breaking Bad is probably the best series I've watched in many years. Watched all 3 series now and I've lost count of how many times I've just been left gobsmacked at the end of an episode. Lost was a mixed bag for me. I liked the first season, but I hated seasons 2 and 3. Four was okay, and I liked 5 and 6. I'm also in the minority, but I liked how the series ended. I think the reason the last 3 seasons were so good is because they were shorter than normal, so they couldn't waste episodes on pointless **** like they did in the first 3 seasons.

I've never seen Oz all the way through, I had only seen a handful of scattered episodes.
