So I lurk these boards all the time and have never made a post. I always find excellent tips on training and what not so I figured I give this question a shot.

A few months ago I hurt my lower back at work (lumbar strain) the pain does not go away and there is nothing doctors can do for it. This has really killed my workouts and all around mobility in general. Does anyone know of any type of exercises I can do to help strengthen my back? This way I won't have to hobble around like an old man. Thanks dudes.

Work hard on your abs, hip flexors, and obliques. They help stabilize your back. Once your back is starting to get better then start out slow with some hyper extensions. Work your way up to deadlifts, and good mornings with light weight. Then keep adding weight as you.

Oh, and stretch that out every morning and night. Do some yoga downward dog and cobra stretches.

Cobra stretches!!!!!

These have helped my back SO much. You'd be surprised that most lower back pain is actually from the hip flexors.

Excellent. Thank you. After doing them last night and this morning, I can already tell that Cobra stretches are going to help.

Great tips on exercises. If you don't see alot of improvement, you may need some treatment to the vertebrae in your spine. If that is the case, see a chiropractor. We see this stuff everyday and will help you for sure.
